Shade cover for windows

I will surely try this at my home, going to bookmark your page. Thanks for sharing it. I love it. I am having a perfect spot at my home to use it. Thank you for sharing post. Hope my room shades will look as beautiful as yours.

After much internet research, I chose your instructions and tried this out. It worked perfectly. I covered 4 shades in my living room- bought the heavier cut-to-size ones from Home Depot and with a lighter weight fabric not decorator the spring mechanisms still hold the weight of the fabric and work perfectly. The first shade I did with fabric down- like you show, and I personally found it easier to do the rest with the shade down and glue the fabric on top- I found it easier to smooth out the fabric that way, and then I just flipped it over to glue the sides to the back.

Also on the bottom, I folded the corners in, like when wrapping the sides of a present, before gluing up like you show. If you are thinking of trying this- go for it!

It was not hard and they look so great. Fabric covered window shade is a very good way to enhance the beauty of the home. This technique will add value to the home. Fabrics make versatile materials for just about any home decor. Love it! This is exactly what I have been contemplating for over a year.

However, I have a question before embarking on said project: How much thicker does the blind actually become when rolling up? Mine is for the bedroom, a blind I roll up and down everyday — can anyone comment on this aspect? Obviously this somewhat dependent upon thickness of material used to cover the blind, but I am curious to know whether the roll up and down function is affected or not. Cheers, c. Hi Celia. So far, they seem to be holding up pretty well.

Hope this helps! I love the look of roller blinds. It adds so much to the room! Loved the transformation and the clarity of the instructions. If you are concerned about fumes, absolutely work outdoors with the spray, and let it air out for a good long while before bringing your finished project into your home.

Hope this helps. These DIY blinds are amazing. Wish I was as talents as you are to create something this cool. Thanks for sharing your DIY blinds with all of us.

Hi Jacqueline, Thank you for the tutorial. Very easy to understand and chased away my fears. Many years ago my mother did this for her bedroom. It is gorgeous. We are now redoing the living room and the windows desperately need help. I wanted to do the shades and now I can get started.

First project, find the right material. Is there any quality of fabric I should use. Once again, thank you for the informative tutorial. Hi Jacci! I used a fairly lightweight quilting cotton. I think that something heavy would keep the shades from rolling up properly. Good luck! I just used your tutorial to repurpose 4 roller shades.

I love the results! Thanks for adding in where you made mistakes — those comments helped me stay aware of which side I was gluing the fabric to. It was so much easier than I thought it was going to be.

I have really enjoyed reading your page. I wish to glue a black out lining to a piece of fabric and make my blind from scratch. Can you recommend a blackout lining which i should use or do you think it will all be too heavy. Did two blinds and they look wonderful. The only issue is that I bought them a while ago without thinking about the gaps of light for inside the frame hanging and then it was too late to hang them outside the frame. Any thoughts on what to do to cover up the gaps? But they look wonderful and all the the tips helped make it less painful although I did get the glue all over myself and the newspapers I did rubbed off the black on my hands and knees… lol but otherwise all good!

Jacquelynne, Thank you so much for this great tutorial! I am hoping to complete two more today. I actually ended up doing it on the driveway to keep the fumes out of the house. Great project and just what I was looking for. Telling us about your mistakes really helped as well.

Contemplating using a flannel fabric. Thanks, I will be working on this tomorrow. Your tutorial is great in that it shows you which way to hang the shade. I am not going to cover the entire shade with fabric. I will only be covering the shade so that you can see the fabric when it is pulled all the way down. Thank you for your help. My name is Jacquelynne, and I just like to make stuff. Fold back the other half of the shade and repeat.

Place another line of glue along folded edge of fabric and fold over bottom edge of shade. Allow to dry. Tami Chaulk on June 7, at pm. Great idea. Almost makes me wish I had a window to do that to. Phylis Forsyth on June 25, at pm.

Montessori supply stores sell really cool, miniature but REAL tools, and Clara seems mature enough to handle those, along with her own supply of scrap wood, screws, etc.

I love it when you can say that about a gift. Looks so cute! I totally agree on the white shelf. The natural look is just not working now that you have other stuff going on in there. Looking forward to seeing you on Wednesday! And speaking of framing out big bath mirrors… last night, my husband just finished refinishing that sounds weird!

The big bathroom mirror needs a frame! But his dad said yes, so that won my husband over. We started to put our Christmas decorations up this weekend.

Hopefully they will be done by this weekend coming up. I ordered your book and it has inspired me to redo our kitchen and laundry room. Love how it turned out! Also noticed that you added a knob to the fake drawer under the sink, definitely makes it look more complete. Oh yes, we mentioned in the last post that they had sold out of knobs so I ran back a week later and they had another one in stock to fill that in!

Love it, and love all the changes in the bathroom. We ever did an update post with pics of them! Now the question is…who will get my book since I already have one! Really cute! Need to finish repainting the dining room before we hang it though.

So happy to hear that you are repainting the shelf to a solid white…it was standing out as unfinished looking to me. The rest of the room looks fantastic!! Love it! I wish our bathroom especially the counter was larger for more fun accessories but I love the way you guys did it too!!

Lerve that fabric! I bought the exact same fabric months ago! I have yet to make anything with it yet though. This weekend I dedicated my DIY-ing to one of your book projects! Painted that headboard right smack onto my wall. I saw it in the post you did on the kitchen window treatment and now I see it again in your bathroom. We have a lot of books… maybe ? And when we moved, they got to live in the corner of the room for about four months.

With only the most minor of set-backs our year old house is completely non-level , we hung the shelves and put up the books in an afternoon! That bathroom looks awesome, I love that you did a work with what ya got instead of ripping out the tile! Way to go :. Most of the framing is done, the upstairs bathroom plumbing is almost complete just the rough plumbing, no fixtures yet and holes were started for the electrical as well as laying out where we wanted plugs in the bedrooms, etc.

I swear his blood line was somehow once infused with ox blood. His grandfather once built a gigantic pond on his property just so he could bass fish in front of his house. His Dad has also renovated now going on his third house, not including our camp.

I love the shade. What colour are the tiles. We have the same look to our bathroom sortof…. I love this look and was just curious hoping really that it would work in my bathroom as well. But cream is a neutral too, so it probably could work!

We had tons of swatches and nothing was quite right — too blue, too dark, too taupe, etc. I am convinced it is the most perfect gray ever! We love it! La-oving the bathroom!

I love it when you guys bust out some easy projects that I can do. Love the shirt! This weekend I spent mostly getting ready for two upcoming shows.

Last two of the year. Well, sort of, there is still that whole Christmas thing going on…and my basement fixer upper project, and ummm, ok, you guys know how it is — the list goes on and on and on. Well, except yours above is almost all crossed off. I know you do! Do you guys have a plan for any rugs in there? Your email address will not be published. Minutes 1 — 3: Make A Paper Template I broke out six pieces of cardstock and the tape to make a quick paper template for the exact width and length of the window.

Fab Freebie: A Cultivated Kitchen. Hahahahahahahah, worst gaffe ever. How will he ever forgive me? I still love that fabric. Thanks Kristen! Our weekend was celebrating our third turkey dinner and putting up some xmas decor : Also, last day to enter to win the NYT bestseller YHL book! From the title, I got excited that this was a post about her big girl room!

Great Job! Love your link party! So much fun! And your weekend sounds busy but like so much fun! Sounds so sweet! I love it. Thanks for sharing. Haha, go Britt go! You guys used to do time spent breakdowns on projects. I miss them! Good luck L!

And be bedazzled with nuts and bolts… xo s. That sounds like so much fun! Love how the bathroom is coming together. And I absolutely love that fabric. Sounds fun! Hahaha, good luck Gina! Love love the fabric!!! Seems like Da Bean just suddenly became a big girl. I know it! And that growth chart is adorable.

So sweet! Oh yeah, we just gotta let things shake out sometimes! You did such an awesome job. Thanks for sharing it with us! That was from Anthro a long time ago!

Your bathroom looks great!
