Slippage most likely due to clutch. No significant symptoms. Occasional glitch on starting to move forward. Told repair to torque converter, clutch and transmission. Both with extra charge. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer several times because it drastically reduced speed without warning.
The rpms increased at a high rate of speed. The dealer replaced the torque converter on the first visit. During the second visit, the dealer replaced the bearing along with the transmission assembly. The contact noticed that a noise progressed shortly after the repair and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer.
The dealer was unable to replicate and diagnose the failure. The contact was waiting for a response from the manufacturer to determine if they could provide a repair solution to the dealer to prevent the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 40, The check engine light came on and we had the vehicle checked. We were told that it was dealing with the transmission and to go to a transmission specialist.
A day later, the tires were locked and the van did not respond to any gear. Had the van towed to transmission shop. They said that the torque converter failed and in turn the oil pump was not circulating oil to the transmission. The transmission was completely welded together.
The vehicle had only 48, miles. I read online where other individuals had same problem at 37, miles and 40, miles. This issue occurs every time I drive the vehicle. It is a Chrysler financial lease vehicle, and current mileage is approximately 9, miles. The problem started occurring at approximately miles. I am an engineer on automatic transmission systems. The Dodge dealer has not been contacted and the vehicle has not been serviced.
There is also a moderate amount of torque converter lock-up clutch slippage in third gear. The vehicle remains in third gear until approximately 40 mph.
During third gear torque converter lock-up mode, engine speed fluctuations are visible on the tachometer. The engine speed changes are audible as well. I have been monitoring the automatic transmission fluid atf level and color. The level is correct and the fluid does not smell or appear burnt fluid is red in color. During normal driving the transmission torque converter failed which tehn resulted in a transmission pump failure. Vehicle became undriveable. Transmission required total build.
Vehicle had only 56k miles and was never used to tow anything. Per dealer, Chrysler denied any responsibility and refused to offer financial assistance. Transmission would delay up-shift at approx. Acceleration is delayed for several seconds. Neither speed nor rpms will increase by pressing pedal. This creates a hazard while trying to merge in traffic. Vehicle had 42, miles. The differential pin came loose making a hole through the transmission case. Transmission fluid leaked into the torque convertor area and then onto my garage floor.
This vehicle has only 74, miles. The mechanic told me that this is very common with these transmissions. He said it occurs when one wheel spins while the other wheel is stopped. In other words, if you live in a climate with snow or ice, this failure can occur at any time to your vehicle. I have contacted the manufacturer and they tell me this is not a defect and that they do not know of any problems with their differential pins.
I contacted the service manager at the local dealership, he said that he has certainly seen this problem before, but since it occured outside of warranty, I am on my own. The minivan has been repaired, but since the replacement differential is the same as before, a serious defect still exists in my vehicle.
Nly 55, miles! The transmission on this van suddenly went out while I was driving over railroad tracks. Fortunately, I was able to get the van off the tracks before the train came by. The van was towed to the dealership who accused me of not properly maintaining the transmission. My husband takes care of the maintenance on this vehicle and followed the manufacturer's instructions. There was never any indication that there was a problem with the transmission prior to it's failure.
The transmission shop has stated that the cooler on the transmission causes a backflow of fliud in the lines forcing the torque converter to drop metal shreds into the transmission. Their opinion is that the failure was caused by a Chrysler design flaw. Just from the little bit of research we have done on car point, it is very common for the transmissions in these vans to fail before they reach 50, miles. I was lucky that mine lasted until 60, I have had several problems with this minivan, including a dashboard melting over the airbag and a belt needing to be replaced 2x already and quite possibly a third now.
Chrysler refuses to stans behind these vans because they are out of the mileage warranty and it's not right. There is an obvious and chronic problem with these minivan transmissions that needs to be fixed. Another mother may not be so lucky and get her van off the railroad tracks when the transmission. Dt fails. Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter. I look forward to hearing from you. Then would finally go into gear. Told at the Chrysler dealership it was the transmission and torque converter.
Transmission went out while consumer was driving at about mph. When checked fluids were all bubbling up, and transmission was burned up. Contacted dealer. Consumer states torque converter was also replaced, also brake pads and rotors had to be replaced. Sudden loud noise and short moment of locked front wheels, engine stalled and after when I stopped, huge oil leak from the transmission.
After transmission disassembly big hole in trans housing around 3" in diameter to the torque converter side, damaged torque converter, pieces of differential parts went of the hole.
Have the transmission for verification, pictures. When starting vehicle in first 5 minutes vehicle would not shift into gear.
Soon afterward vehicle would travel normal. The original transmission failed at 20, miles and the second one failed at 53, miles. The transmissions needed complete teardown, reseal and a new torque converter.
When the vehicle comes to a stop the transmission jumps and then the vehicle dies. This only happens when the vehicle is in the first gear. Once the vehicle shifts out of first gear it does not have any problem with shifting. However when the vehicle begins to down shift when it comes to a complete stop as the transmission shifts to first gear it begins to jerk, hesitate and then the engine dies.
The transmission was replaced by the dealer at miles. I serviced the transmission every miles thereafter. With only on the "new" transmission the torque converter and front pump have fallen apart. Is there anything on this vehicle that is not a piece of junk? The emergency brake has not worked for over two years. It is being replaced today.
I have been monitoring the automatic transmission fluid atf level and color. The level is correct and the fluid does not smell or appear burnt fluid is red in color.
