Seeking info on Bettoney piccolo Post by mickeyf » Mon Mar 31, am Years ago I "messed around" on flute, but it has never been my main instrument mostly I play horns these days and I am finally bringing myself to part with the instruments I don't play or practice. One of these is a Bettoney Piccolo, serial 24xx, entirely wood - presumably Ebony - not with a silver head joint as most seem to have. Please Observe all pictures provided and ask questions if in doubt Overall it is an older instrument.

So service and repairs should be in order. H Bettoney C Melody Saxophone. Maybe someone out there has the time. Has the tenor style neck, solid metal key touches no pearls but keyed to high F. No major corrosion in keywork, all keys move fine, I've put some penetrating oil in anyways to keep it that way until it gets fixed.

Needs complete repad. Is not playable as is, so priced accordingly. Happy to answer your questions. Check my feedback- you're in for a pleasant deal here. We'll work out shipping. Posted with. It comes with a gently used case, mouthpiece, world class Robert Vinson ligature and cap, and a thumb rest. Other information I found: The Bettoney Three Star is an upper intermediate or semi-pro model and with the exception of the materials used in it the Three Star is identical to Bettoney's top-of-the-line model. Which was named Silva-Bet and made entirely from silverplated nickel-silver.

In opposite to the Silva-Bet the Three Star has a copper bell while the rest of the body is made of goldbrass and the keyworks are made The whole clarinet has a thin galvanic overlay consisting of either pure nickel or silver to protect the sensible keywork material from sweat and to make the instrument look nice and shiny.

The Three Star also doesn't have the thick tunable barrel with a screw mechanism like the Silva-Bet. This is no disadvantage because sooner or later most old Silva-Bets develop problems with the delicate tuning mechanism which gets worn out and starts to drone while you play. So the simple barrel of the Three Star can be seen as an advantage here.

The sound of these two clarinets is virtually indistinguishable to the sound of a good wooden clarinet with cylindrical bore. This auction is for the Gregory Smith clarinet mouthpiece. The Selmer ligature and the old H. Bettoney"Fitall" cap. The hard rubber mouthpiece is in very good. Unmodified condition. Showing a few scratches from ligature use.

The bell end remains pretty nice with a very good rim, there are no bad or rough spots on the finish, shows normal surface wear or marks when looking closely, but still nothing bad for something this old. The mouth piece is showing wear but sound. Marked Lyons of Chicago, the cork is worn off where the metal stem of mouth end fits onto horn, but that end remains sound.

The reed clamp and screw are broken as the mounts for the screw are broke off, so that unit needs replacing. There are some pads and cork bumpers in place but really not sure how good they are overall, or what needs replacing. Some of the keys show normal wear to the pads and did not find any repaired spots, so seems to be a pretty fine unit overall.
