Recent evidence suggests that crack smoking can cause acute respiratory symptoms, abnormalities in lung function and, in some instances, severe, life-threatening acute lung injury. To evaluate further the relationship between frequent cocaine smoking and respiratory symptoms and lung dysfunction, we studied a sample of heavy, habitual smokers of freebase cocaine mean 6.
There may be hallucinations and confusion. The person may think there are bugs crawling on his skin. They may pick and scratch at their skin. They will probably have trouble concentrating. If the drug is used over a period of time, the user is likely to show premature aging. Of course, one of the major effects of crack cocaine is rapid development of addiction. Cocaine causes the strongest mental dependency of any drug. This dependency can occur within just days of starting to use crack cocaine.
Binge use of crack cocaine can result in a psychotic, over-stimulated state accompanied by paranoia and compulsive behavior. At the end of the binge, the person will normally crash, suffering exhaustion, agitation, depression and intense cravings. While a driver who has used crack cocaine may feel invincible, he is likely to lose his concentration while driving, increasing his risk for accidents. He may also suffer attacks of paranoia, hallucinations or mood swings while driving.
Lack of concentration may result in a loss of control of the vehicle. Of fatally injured drivers in Michigan in a two-year period, ten percent were found to have cocaine or residues of cocaine use in their blood.
Crackling sound when breathing can be a sign of pneumonia, a blockage or a congestion of liquid in the lungs. On the other hand crackling during inhalation might be a sign of asthma, bronchitis or other causes. Urgent medical diagnosis may be required to identify what the underlying cause might be.
See your doctor as soon as you notice such sound coming from both or one of your lungs. As mentioned, lung crackles can only be heard with a stethoscope in a medical examination.
Some case of crackling can, however, be so hard making it possible to be heard even without a stethoscope. Lung crackles when lying down can indicate a blockage of your nasal passage and airway with mucus. In such a case, your lungs are placed under increased pressure, they eventually collapse causing a condition known as atelectasis. In such cases, the crackling may be accompanied by other symptoms such as shortness of breath, chest pain, wheezing, coughing, and a sensation of suffocation.
Seek urgent medical attention if you notice any of these symptoms. Depending on the type of crackling one has, there are different respiratory condition that might be causing it. Some of the common causes include the following:. Bronchitis is the inflammation of the bronchial tubes. Most people will develop acute bronchitis after cold, this will often resolve after a day or two depending on how strong your immune system is. Chronic bronchitis, on the other hand, does not resolve without medical attention.
Common symptoms will include coughing, wheezing, fatigue, shortness of breath, and chills. See your doctor if any of these symptoms take longer to clear. These are serious medical condition that requires being treated as soon as possible. Obstructive pulmonary disease such as asthma or cystic fibrosis can cause the crackling and wheezing when a person breathes.
When untreated it could lead to a more severe condition such as bronchiectasis. These diseases affect inhalation and may cause a buildup of carbon dioxide and fluids inside the lung.
A continuous buildup of these products may cause scarring in the lungs which can be shown by the cracklings in both or one of your lung.
Intestinal lung diseases are those involving the air sacs and tissues in the lungs. This will include conditions such as sarcoidosis and rheumatoid arthritis. These conditions are said to cause scarring in lungs which traps fluids to cause the crackling sounds. A heart failure resulting from the weakening of the heart muscles, a viral infection, or a genetic disorder can also cause the crackling sound in lungs.
As the pumping function of the heart is impaired, blood backs up in the arteries between the heart and your lungs, increased pressure may cause the blood to leak into the lungs causing the crackling.
