I did finally get my system running Win98 with all drivers installed except the modem. Here were the steps I followed:. Installed the Dell Resource CD, use its browser to find the XP driver for the audio card, and unzipped that archive.

Did not try running the included install based on SMbus experience above, instead I reinstalled the driver for "PCI Multimedia Audio Device" and browsed through the unzipped archive to find a win98se area that had an INF that worked. It worked perfectly. Could not find a 98 modem driver on the Dell CD for the modem, so I unplugged my modem planning to go online later and find the driver for this. Now I am able to get to the real meat -- my serial port Logitech Wingman Formula Force steering wheel is not supported on XP, so this is why I am here in the first place.

Alas, I plugged in the steering wheel to the COM port, ran the install, tried it several times, but all to no avail. So now I am set back trying to debug a COM port problem on this controller.
